Prof Rasmussen’s work has encompassed health economics, regional economics, innovation and economic development. Recent work includes estimating the economic returns to investment in health and human capital, for WHO, UNICEF, and UNFPA.
In 2021, he co-led a project to establish the investment case for the WHO to increase its funding levels. The study contributed to a major review of WHO funding strategies.
Multi-country evaluation studies have estimated the benefit-cost ratios for interventions to treat health conditions for children and mothers, those with mental health issues and for a range of interventions to improve the wellbeing of adolescents including in Burundi (for UNICEF), India (for UNFPA), and Syria (for UNICEF).
He led work on a UNFPA (2015–2017) adolescent health project evaluating interventions to reduce child marriage and intimate partner violence, with results published in The Lancet and Journal of Adolescent Health.
