Cristina Gutiérrez Hernández has a degree in Medicine and Surgery from the University of Valladolid (1984-1990) and is a specialist in Clinical Microbiology and Parasitology (1992-1995). She also has postgraduate certificates in "Tropical Medicine" and in "Development cooperation projects management".
She has over 25 years of professional experience in humanitarian aid and development assistance in NGOs, multilateral organizations and Spanish Cooperation in the Balkans, North Africa and Sub Saharan Africa. In 2002, she started working for the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID at the Technical Cooperation Office for the Balkans (located in Sarajevo) first as a project manager and between 2005-2010 as Head of this office. She was designated Head of the Spanish Cooperation in Morocco (2010-2014) and later in Mozambique (2014-2018). Since September 2018 she is the Director for Humanitarian Affairs at the AECID.
