Biography

Franka Cadée is a midwife serving her second term as the President of the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM) (2017–2023). Franka is an expert in midwifery and a consultant on sexual and reproductive health care with over 30 years of experience in strategy and policy development, advocacy, leadership, research and project management. With her anthropological and midwifery background, Franka has lived and worked across a range of differently resourced countries and is well aware of the realities of midwifery practice in various cultural contexts. She is a strong proponent of a rights-based approach to health care in general and to midwifery in particular. Franka is known to many for her research on twinning collaborations between associations of midwives and manages several cross-cultural twinning projects for the Royal Dutch Organization of Midwives (KNOV). Previously, she served on the ICM Board as treasurer (2002–2008) and on the ICM Council as a KNOV Delegate (2008–2017).
