Biography

Hareya Fassil has over 25 years of experience in global health and international development. Since 2013, she has been serving as Senior Policy Advisor/ Team Lead at the United States Agency for International Development’s (USAID) Bureau for Global Health. She leads on a range of global health policy and multilateral partnership initiatives, working with leaders at all levels across USAID and other government agencies, to help advance global health policy priorities and strengthen USAID’s engagement in key multilateral partnerships and governance platforms.

Prior to joining USAID, she served in advisory and representational roles in several other multilateral partnership/ governance platforms, including the UNAIDS Programme Coordination Board, the Roll Back Malaria Partnership, and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria. Earlier, as Congressional Fellow for African Affairs and Global Health in the United States House of Representatives, she advised on foreign assistance policies and strategies for addressing global health and conflict resolution in African countries. She has also consulted for other leading international agencies, including the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization.

Hareya’s experience in global health policy and diplomacy in international settings is complemented by her contributions at the national level, including programme management, policy analysis and strategy development, as well as field research spanning health, food security and natural resource/agrobiodiversity management, working with national and local leaders in several countries, including Ethiopia, Haiti, Malawi and Zambia.
