Ms. Julia Bunting currently serves as the Director of the UNFPA Programme Division. Julia brings to this new role exceptional experience spanning over 25 years in both the public and non-profit sectors. As President and CEO of the Population Council (2015-2023), Julia spearheaded the development and implementation of a transformative strategic plan, significantly strengthened resource mobilization efforts bringing in new funders, and enhanced focus on research utilization and impact.
From 2012-2015, Julia served as the Director for the Programme and Technical Division at the International Planned Parent Federation (IPPF) where she championed initiatives to expand service provision for SRHR and set vital technical guidelines. Between 2000-2012 Julia held multiple roles at the UK Department for International Development (DFID), most notably as the Team Leader of the AIDS and Reproductive Health Team, where she oversaw the UK government’s international development policy on SRHR, maternal, newborn and child health, HIV/AIDS, and population. During her time at DFID Julia catalyzed the 2012 London Summit on Family Planning co-hosted by the UK Government, Gates Foundation, USAID and UNFPA.
She has served on numerous global health boards including the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (PMNCH) and the Reproductive Health Supplies Coalition (RHSC) – which she chaired for over 4 years.
