Biography

Susan Clapham is currently a Health Adviser at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), Government of the United Kingdom, working on sexual, reproductive, maternal and newborn (SRMNH) policy and leading on the delivery of related programmes. She focuses on the centrality of SRMNH to the delivery of universal health coverage and hence is engaged in FCDO’s health systems strengthening agenda. Prior to this, Susan was a Department for International Development (DFID) Country Adviser (2004–2017) in Nepal, Malawi and Ghana, managing large-scale technical and financial assistance programmes in support of national health systems and SRMNH. Preceding DFID, she worked for a non-governmental organization and a consultancy company in Nepal and Ethiopia, developing national primary health care policies and national health programmes primarily in SRMNH. In 2011, Susan was awarded a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire (MBE) for public service.
