Call for Nominations - PMNCH Board

23 January 2025
Expression of interest

The world is witnessing accelerating change and deepening uncertainty. Volatile geo- and socio- political dynamics see international support for global health under strain, even as humanitarian crises afflict millions. Progress in women’s, adolescents’ and children’s health (WCAH) has stalled, lagging far behind the promises of the Sustainable Development Goals, with sexual and reproductive health and rights under significant threat. These realities are compounded by a challenging donor landscape, weakening commitments to multilateralism and growing restrictions on civic space.

Now more than ever, PMNCH is needed as a bold and impactful multi-stakeholder platform, enabling and galvanizing effective and innovative collaboration and action for the health and wellbeing of women, adolescents and children around the world. That in turn requires bold, committed and innovative strategic leadership, particularly at Board level.

If you are committed to the success of PMNCH as an influential enabler of action for WCAH, and you believe you meet the requirements for Board members as set out below, please do apply for membership of governing Board, using the form below.

Further information on the requirements for applying can be found in the Terms of Reference.

In 2024, following an independent review of the PMNCH governance system, the then Board approved a set of reforms, including its own dissolution and its replacement with a more streamlined governing body. As part of those reforms, the Board also agreed to merge PMNCH’s ten constituencies into six.

The list of the post-reform constituencies, from which a majority of Board members are drawn, is as follows:

  • Governments and Intergovernmental Organizations (GIG), from which a maximum of three Board members are drawn.
  • United Nations Agencies and Global Financing Mechanisms (UGF), from which a maximum of two Board members are drawn.
  • Health Care Professionals Associations and Academic Research & Training Institutes (HCAR), from which a maximum of two Board members are drawn.
  • Adolescents and Youth (AY) from which a maximum of two Board members are drawn.
  • Private Sector and Private Foundations (PSPF) from which a maximum of two Board members are drawn.
  • Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO) from which a maximum of two Board members are drawn.

In sum, a maximum of 13 of the Board’s 17 members are drawn from the constituencies. Normally, those 13 Board members in turn will act as constituency convenors/co-conveners.

The Board Chair is an additional member of the Board and has the authority to appoint two independent board members. Further as Host Agency, WHO is an ex-officio Board member, also with full voting rights.

Board members (with the exception of WHO’s appointee) serve for a term of a maximum of three years, renewable once. However, exceptionally in this start-up phase of the new Board, consideration may be given to a staggering of terms of office so that a balance can be reached between continuity and renewal of Board membership over the coming six years.

PMNCH is now seeking nominations for the 13 members of the new (post-2024 reforms) PMNCH Board who are drawn from the new (post-2024 reforms) constituencies.

Those nominations are open only to PMNCH member organizations.

Member organizations are invited to nominate candidates whose experience and expertise aligns strongly with the Board’s purposes and stated expectations of Board membership, as set out in (new) Board’s terms of reference.
