Coalition of Partnerships for UHC and Global Health

Case study

This month I’m proud to spotlight the Coalition of Partnerships for UHC and Global Health (The Coalition of Partnerships) for their outstanding work on calling on leaders to make bigger and smarter investments in health.

Recognizing the need for greater collaboration across health stakeholders and programmes, the Coalition of Partnerships unites health leaders in advocacy and accountability efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) and advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). PMNCH is a proud member of the Coalition of Partnerships whose other members include the NCD Alliance, the RBM Partnership to End Malaria, the Stop TB Partnership, UHC2030, UNAIDS, and WHO Global NCD Platform, bringing together a wide range of thematic areas in health.

The Coalition of Partnerships aims to bring and keep UHC on the political and global agenda and is responsible for spearheading the commemoration of UHC Day. Each year on 12 December, UHC advocates remind everyone that Health for All is a prerequisite to creating a better world. Now in a time of compounding threats and the devastating effects of COVID-19, climate crises, and increased conflicts, the Coalition’s joint advocacy for increased investment in robust and equitable health systems, including  primary health care and universal health coverage, is more important than ever. As the recent Protect the Promise Progress Report highlights, we cannot afford to step back.

The Coalition of Partnerships also promotes accountability practices in health. In April 2022, they supported the Voluntary National Review (VNR) Lab on SDG 3 (good health and well-being)  where they shared tools and resources, as well as best practices among countries, to review country progress based on 2019 commitments. Other key areas of work  include contributions to the country-level civil society consultations coordinated by the Civil Society Engagement Mechanism (CSEM), preparations for the multi-stakeholder consultations on UHC for the High-level Meeting on UHC in 2023, and the commemoration of WHO/UN days and events such as the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development, World AIDS Day, World Health Day, World Malaria Day, and World TB Day.

We look forward to  International Universal Health Coverage Day with the call to “Build the World We Want: A Healthy Future for All.”  We will align our efforts to ensure that every woman, child, and adolescent has access to the health services they need.
