This month, I am proud to spotlight 11 youth-led organizations doing outstanding work to improve the well-being of adolescents. The organizations, which are members of the PMNCH Adolescents and Youth Constituency, were selected as grant recipients under the COVID-19 Rapid Response and Recovery Small Grants Mechanism, led by the Global Finance Facility and PMNCH. These organizations will bring together young people to implement activities and engagement that drive change at the national and subnational levels, building support for the PMNCH Global Forum for Adolescents in October 2023.
The Forum will be the world’s largest-ever gathering on adolescent well-being. Partners from more than 130 countries will unite through a series of national events and a two-day virtual main stage targeting the window of political opportunity of the UN Sustainable Development Goals Summit in September 2023 and the G20 Summit in November 2023. The Forum will mobilize political commitments, resources, and supported country-led action.
At the center of this effort will be young people standing up for their health, rights, and well-being. The 11 selected organizations will leverage different channels to capture and record young people’s perspectives, ideas, challenges, needs, concerns and ambitions in relation to their own health and well-being. Together, these perspectives will inform an agenda for action for the Global Forum and a multi-year campaign on adolescent well-being. Their efforts underscore the need for young people to realize their right to be meaningfully engaged in all matters that affect their lives.
The 11 organizations are:
- Education as a Vaccine (Nigeria)
- Cameroon Youth Network (Cameroon)
- Youth Act Alliance (Malawi)
- YP Foundation (India)
- Organization of African Youth of Kenya (Kenya)
- Big Sisters Organization (Liberia)
- Young Leaders for Change Foundation (Ghana)
- Youth Partnership for Peace and Development (Sierra Leone)
- My Age Zimbabwe (Zimbabwe)
- Copper Rose Zambia (Zambia)
- Y yo, por que, no? (Mexico)
Congratulations to the grant recipients! We look forward to your collaboration and insight as we work together to mobilize more and better action for adolescent well-being.
