Transforming care for the 30 million vulnerable newborns who are currently being left behind is a smart investment in the health and development of future generations. It will also significantly move us along the path to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), through universal health coverage (UHC), by 2030.
UNICEF and WHO, in collaboration with the Network for Improving Quality of Care for Maternal, Newborn and Child Health and with support from partners, including USAID, Project Concern International, Save the Children, LSHTM, and the Gates Foundation, present a webinar series Survive and Thrive: Transforming Care for Every Small and Sick Newborn to highlight the importance of inpatient care for the world’s most vulnerable newborns and present the new Standards for Small and Sick Newborn Care. The webinar series will take place every other week from May 6 – August 12 with two slots provided for each webinar at 10am and 1pm CEST.
The webinar series will feature a new global report, Survive and thrive: transforming care for every small and sick newborn, which calls for transformation of health systems and nurturing model of hospital care for small and sick newborns. To operationalize the report, the World Health Organization (WHO) will launch new standards for small and sick newborns. These standards will complement a set of related guidance documents provided to counties for improving facility-based quality care for maternal, newborn and child health, including the Standards for Improving Quality of Maternal and Newborn Care in Health Facilities in 2016 and the Standards for Improving the Quality of Care for Children and Young Adolescents in Health Facilities in 2018.
