In September 2019, world leaders came together to endorse the Political Declaration on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the most comprehensive international health agreement in history. In the same year, the Global Action Plan for Healthy Lives and Well-being for All (SDG3 Global Action Plan) was launched to guide and bring together major health, development and humanitarian agencies to support countries to accelerate progress towards the health-related SDGs and UHC, by committing to consolidating their efforts through stronger collaboration at country level. Since that moment, the world has been faced with a global health crisis unparalleled in recent history, the health and socioeconomic implications of which pose a significant threat to progress made toward UHC and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
