International Universal Health Coverage Day 2021

Universal Health Coverage Day is celebrated annually on December 12 and is promoted by the World Health Organization. December 12 is the anniversary of the first unanimous United Nations resolution calling for all nations to provide for their citizens affordable, quality health care.

As we enter the third year of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have no choice but to strengthen our health systems to ensure they are equitable, resilient, and capable of meeting everyone’s needs. There is now an urgent opportunity for more and better investments in the foundations of health systems grounded in primary health care – to ensure that no one is left behind. We must hold leaders accountable for achieving the promise of health for all as part of COVID-19 response and recovery strategies.
