Many of the 1.2 billion adolescents (aged 10-19 years) around the world experience multiple barriers and challenges to their well-being. This includes a lack of access to good nutrition, health services, education, mental health support and a safe and supportive environment.
WHO, in collaboration with PMNCH and UN H6+ partners (UNICEF, UNFPA, UN Women, UNAIDS, and World Food Programme) hosted eight regional multi-stakeholder consultations from June – August 2021 to reach broad agreement on policies and programming to promote adolescent well-being. The consultations identified gaps in knowledge for this population group and the findings from the consultations have been synthesized in a report which will be launched at this event.
This side event will discuss some of the gaps identified during the consultations and recommendations made to address those gaps. It will explore opportunities to make the case for greater commitment to adolescents and to mainstream/integrate adolescent well-being programming in national and subnational development plans.
