From November 2021 to September 2022, the USAID-funded MOMENTUM Routine Immunization Transformation and Equity project in Vietnam worked to accelerate COVID-19 vaccination uptake among vulnerable and hard-to-reach populations. The project provided targeted technical support at the sub-national level for microplanning, capacity building, and monitoring and evaluation with USAID American Rescue Plan Act funding.
Over a relatively short period of time, the project made important contributions to identify unvaccinated people across five provinces, and work with the Ministry of Health, the National Expanded Program on Immunization (NEPI) and the Northern and Central Regional Expanded Programs on Immunization (EPI) to develop and implement strategies to reach them. These experiences provide valuable lessons that may be able to be adapted and applied in other contexts, both in the region and globally.
During the webinar we will be sharing our approach on effectively planning for the COVID-19 vaccination campaign through bottom-up development of accurate microplans for vaccination sessions at the local level; reaching marginalized populations through a mobile vaccination strategy; and reaching children aged 5-11 through coordination with the education sector.
