In September 2019, world leaders endorsed the Political Declaration on Universal Health Coverage (UHC), the most ambitious and comprehensive political declaration on health in history. In doing so, they committed to ensuring that by 2030, everyone can receive the quality health services they need without suffering financial hardship.
Starting in 2020, a group of stakeholders led by UHC2030 have been monitoring each country's progress towards UHC through the State of the UHC Commitment Review. In 2021 and 2022, the Civil Society Engagement Mechanism for UHC2030 (CSEM) and the organizing partners led 37 civil society consultations as part of this multi-stakeholder review process. The consultations captured stories, experiences and perspectives of civil society and communities that show the real progress made toward UHC on the ground.
Participants across the over 40 countries represented highlighted recommendations for policy and advocacy actions that must be accelerated to close the gaps and achieve UHC. In the lead-up to the 2023 United Nations High-Level Meeting (HLM) on UHC, these recommendations will shape our joint strategy to hold leaders accountable and call for a renewed, refocused attention to achieve health for all.
This session will present key findings from the country consultations, spotlight the State of the UHC Commitment Review, and discuss the advocacy roadmap ahead.
