The journal supplement on ‘Measurement of Adolescents’ Mental Health at the Population Level’ emphasizes the importance of investing in adolescent mental health measurement to understand and address the mental health needs of young populations. The lack of data and reliable tools to collect data on mental health among adolescents has been a significant obstacle in addressing their needs.
Along with the journal supplement, UNICEF will present the Measurement of Adolescents’ Mental Health at the Population Level MMAP tool. The MMAP tool is a clinically validated data collection tool developed with key partners, for collecting population-level data on key aspects of adolescent mental health, including prevalence of symptoms of anxiety and depression, functional limitations, suicidality, careseeking and connectedness. The MMAP tool will be made publicly available in the UNICEF website along with implementation and data analysis materials. Data collected using the MMAP tool will be useful for informing policies, programs and investment.
