SieDi-Hub Celebrates Second Anniversary with Symposium Marking International Women's Day

On March 8, 2024, SieDi-Hub, in collaboration with the American Corner Ikeja, Boundless Hands Africa, Rosaline Initiative, and other civil society organizations in Abia State, convened a symposium in Umuahia to commemorate International Women's Day and celebrate SieDi-Hub's second anniversary. The theme of the event, "Count Her In: Invest in Women, Accelerate Progress," underscored the importance of women's empowerment and inclusion in societal advancement.

The symposium featured a diverse array of activities, including paper presentations by civil society organizations and advocates, panel discussions, awards presentations, the launch of SieDi-Hub's redesigned website, and a celebratory cake-cutting ceremony. These components fostered engaging discussions, innovative ideas, and shared experiences aimed at advancing women's rights and opportunities.

The event drew participation from various stakeholders, including civil society organizations, government officials, the media, young professionals, recent graduates, and local and international partners. While 60 individuals attended the event in person, many others joined virtually from around the world, highlighting the global significance of the issues discussed.

Highlights of the symposium included a keynote address by the Honorable Commissioner for Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs, Mrs. Ngozi Blessing Felix, emphasizing the importance of gender equality and women's participation in leadership. Additionally, insightful paper presentations explored strategies for overcoming barriers to women's empowerment, promoting women's leadership, and addressing neglected issues such as the lived experiences of women with neglected tropical diseases.

The symposium also featured SieDi-Hub's Impact Report, detailing the organization's achievements over the past two years in empowering youth and women through various programs and initiatives. The report underscored SieDi-Hub's commitment to fostering collaboration, knowledge sharing, and impactful interventions.

A panel discussion further delved into the event's theme, with panelists engaging in lively discourse on the importance of investing in women to accelerate societal progress. The session provided valuable insights and recommendations for promoting gender equality and inclusive development.

The event concluded with the presentation of awards to individuals and organizations that have demonstrated exemplary commitment to women's empowerment. Additionally, the celebration of SieDi-Hub's second anniversary included the launch of a redesigned website and a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the organization's growth and impact over the past two years.

In closing, the symposium issued a call to action, urging stakeholders to prioritize women's empowerment, gender equality, and inclusive governance. Participants echoed their commitment to driving positive change and building a more inclusive society where every individual, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to progress.
