No Time to Gamble: Leaders Must Unite to Prevent Pandemics from The Independent Panel on Vimeo.

Dr. Richard Horton, Editor-in-Chief of the The Lancet moderated the report launch event on June 18. The virtual event was co-hosted by Club de Madrid, of which both Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and Helen Clark are members. 

In his opening remarks Dr. Horton said that "there is no question that The Independent Panel produced the most comprehensive and far-reaching assessment of the global pandemic response, with a set of recommendations that, if they were implemented, would do much to secure our protection from future pandemic threats." 

Helen Clark provided an overview of the progress  - and lack of it - against the Independent Panel's original package of recommendations, and described actions leaders can now take to put the world on track to be better prepared to prevent pandemics. This was followed by perspectives on COVID-19 lessons and country preparedness, a discussion on finance, equitable access to countermeasures and civil society engagement, and on political leadership.
