Four years since COVID-19 erupted globally, is the world better prepared for a new pandemic threat? In May 2021, the Independent Panel for Pandemic Preparedness and Response presented a package of evidence-based recommendations to the World Health Assembly that were urgent, ambitious, and practical. The key, they said, was to take action on all of the recommendations in order to better safeguard the world and make COVID-19 the last pandemic of such devastation. Today, The Independent Panel, co-chaired by HE Ellen Johnson Sirleaf and the RH Helen Clark, has assessed progress on their recommendations, and will present its findings and recommendations on how to accelerate progress.
