Strengthening Energy-Health Linkages: The Role of Energy in Women, Children, and Adolescents’ Health (WCAH)

Access to sustainable energy is crucial for improving health outcomes across Southern Africa. The lack of reliable electricity in healthcare facilities leads to:
⚠️ Increased maternal and newborn mortality due to poor access to life-saving equipment.
⚠️ Limited vaccine storage and distribution, affecting child immunization efforts.
⚠️ Insufficient water sanitation services, increasing risks of infectious diseases.
⚠️ Gender inequality, as women and children bear the brunt of energy poverty.

Aligned with the WHA77 resolution on reducing maternal, newborn, and child mortality and morbidity, SADC Sustainable Energy Week 2025 presents a unique opportunity to:
🔹 Advocate for integrating health-focused energy solutions into policy discussions.
🔹 Promote investment in energy access for healthcare facilities, particularly in rural areas.
🔹 Strengthen multi-sectoral partnerships between energy and health stakeholders.
