On Tuesday, April 22, 2025, we celebrate the 55th anniversary of Earth Day under the theme: OUR POWER, OUR PLANET™. This year’s theme emphasizes the collective strength of communities, individuals, and nations to protect and restore our planet through actionable, sustainable solutions.
Earth Day 2025 is a call to harness our collective power to address the pressing challenges facing our environment and health, including climate change, biodiversity loss, and environmental degradation. These challenges directly affect the most vulnerable populations, particularly women, children, and adolescents, whose health and livelihoods are disproportionately impacted by environmental crises.
At PMNCH, we recognize that climate action is deeply connected to Women, Children, and Adolescents’ Health (WCAH). Environmental degradation exacerbates health inequities, increasing the burden of disease, malnutrition, and unsafe living conditions. As outlined in the WHA77 resolution on reducing maternal, newborn, and child mortality and morbidity, addressing environmental determinants of health is essential for reducing preventable deaths and ensuring a healthy future for all.
This Earth Day, PMNCH calls for action in three key areas:
- Empowering sustainable health systems: Strengthen health services to respond to climate-induced health risks, particularly for women and children.
- Promoting equity in climate solutions: Ensure marginalized communities have access to clean water, sanitation, and renewable energy to improve health outcomes and quality of life.
- Supporting youth leadership: Amplify the voices of young advocates who are driving climate action and innovation for a healthier planet.
Join us in celebrating Earth Day 2025 by taking action for our planet and the health of future generations. Share your commitment using the hashtag #OurPowerOurPlanet to inspire others and spark collective change.
Together, we have the power to protect our planet and ensure a sustainable, equitable future for all. Let’s act boldly and decisively for the next 55 years—and beyond.
