G20: Driving Global Action for Inclusive and Sustainable Development

22 – 25 November 2025

The G20 is a pivotal forum of the world’s major economies, comprising 19 countries and two regional bodies—the European Union and the African Union. Together, G20 members account for 85% of global GDP, over 75% of international trade, and approximately two-thirds of the world’s population, positioning it as a key driver of global economic and social policies.

A Collaborative Framework

The G20 operates without a permanent secretariat or staff, with the Presidency rotating annually among its members. The host country sets the agenda in consultation with other members, responding to pressing global challenges and ensuring the forum remains relevant to the evolving global landscape. A “troika”—comprising the current, immediate past, and next host countries—provides continuity and stability in G20 processes.

Integrating Women, Children, and Adolescents’ Health (WCAH) into the G20 Agenda

With its broad representation and economic influence, the G20 is uniquely positioned to address the health inequities that disproportionately affect women, children, and adolescents, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. PMNCH advocates for Women, Children, and Adolescents’ Health (WCAH) to be a core component of the G20’s discussions and outcomes, as investing in health is integral to achieving sustainable development.

Key areas where the G20 can lead on WCAH include:

  1. Strengthening global health systems: Encourage increased investments in maternal, newborn, and child health, in line with the WHA77 resolution on reducing preventable mortality and morbidity.
  2. Addressing health impacts of inequality: Leverage economic policies to ensure marginalized populations, particularly women and adolescents, have access to quality healthcare.
  3. Promoting health resilience in climate adaptation: Acknowledge and act on the links between climate change and health, prioritizing initiatives that support vulnerable populations.
  4. Driving innovation in digital health: Champion digital solutions that improve access to health information and services for underserved communities.

A Call to Action for G20 Leaders

The G20 has the power to catalyze transformative change for global health. We call on G20 leaders to:

  • Integrate WCAH into discussions on global economic recovery and sustainable development.
  • Prioritize health equity in policy frameworks, ensuring no one is left behind.
  • Increase financial and technical support for health systems, particularly in countries with limited resources.
  • Champion cross-sectoral partnerships that link health with education, climate action, and economic empowerment.

G20 Leadership for a Healthier Future

The G20’s decisions and commitments have far-reaching implications for global health and equity. By placing Women, Children, and Adolescents’ Health (WCAH) at the heart of its agenda, the G20 can lead the way in building resilient systems, addressing inequalities, and fostering sustainable development.

As the G20 shapes its priorities, let’s ensure health and equity are at the forefront. Use the hashtag #G20WCAH to join the conversation and advocate for a future where every individual, regardless of circumstance, has the opportunity to thrive.
