Webinar: Celebrating two decades of progress and asking, Now what?

Countdown to 2030’s series of reports starting in 2005 raised awareness around the unacceptable levels and inequalities in maternal and child mortality. Now, with slowing progress and urgent challenges, independent accountability is as important as ever. On 9 April we are convening a group of global health leaders to discuss what’s needed to advance toward the SDGs and beyond.

The agenda will include:

• Opening and closing remarks from Cheikh Faye, Countdown’s director (APHRC).
• Reflections on Countdown’s legacy by Cesar Victora (Pelotas University), Joy Lawn (LSHTM), and Ties Boerma (University of Manitoba).
• A special address by Richard Horton, editor-in-chief of The Lancet.
• A panel discussion moderated by Mickey Chopra (World Bank) with Catherine Kyobutungi (APHRC), Amadou Doucoure (Senegal’s Ministry of Health), Helga Fogstad (UNICEF),  Luc Laviolette (Global Financing Facility),  Rajat Khosla (PMNCH), Benson Droti (World Health Organization African Regional Office), and Rahul Rawat (Gates Foundation).
• Event moderation by Robert Black from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health.

As Countdown marks its 20th anniversary, this webinar brings together leading researchers, policymakers and global health advocates to reflect on what two decades of independent monitoring for women, children, and adolescents have achieved and how to confront the challenges ahead.
