Mental Health for Healthcare Workers in Malawi

Vitalk is committed to promoting mental health to healthcare workers around the world through its innovative app, especially during times of COVID-19. The goal is that the health workforce can take care of others. This year Vitalk is launching its app in Malawi, where professionals will have access to the content of the app, including daily exercises and ways of better coping with mental health.

Safer Together- An introduction to culture, race and bias in midwifery practice

White Ribbon Alliance and partners All4Maternity have co-produced two open access digital eLearn modules as part of their global Safer Together campaign where representatives of the beneficiary groups provide education and insight into culture, race and bias in midwifery and health care practice. The digital interface, ease of use, free to access response to a learning need is innovative in nature because it responds with clarity and ease to the needs that COVID 19 presented us with.

COVID-19 Film Screening

This presentation will showcase 3 cutting edge animations focused on self-care during COVID 19 times, created through a powerful collaboration between PMNCH/WHO, UNICEF, Medical Aid films and animation studio Eeksaurus. The first film reached over 90 million views online, and this session will touch on how this global partnership enabled such a large reach, and the importance of planned dissemination and its role in addressing COVID-19 misinformation, along with the challengesof translating complex evidence and guidance into simple behaviour change content.

Hemafuse, a health solution for blood shortage in the wake of COVID-19

Prior to COVID-19, Africa's blood supply was insufficient and fell short of the existing demand. The pandemic has increased the deficit, due to a stark decrease in blood donors, fear of infection at donation centers, cancelled blood donation drives among other factors. HEMAFUSE is an innovative surgical device used in auto transfusion with a proven record of saving lives and can be used in approximately 100,000 surgeries in Kenya a year.

Improving Prevention and Management of Postpartum Hemorrhage in Madagascar

Hemorrhage, primarily postpartum (PPH), is the leading direct cause of maternal deaths worldwide and women in low-income countries have an increased likelihood of experiencing severe PPH and dying from PPH-related consequences. In early 2020 in Madagascar, together with midwives, women, district officials, ourpartner the ACCESS project, and facility supervisors we developed a package of solutions informed by behavioral science to increase timely oxytocin administration, support providers in detecting PPH cases earlier, and give providers real-time,actionable guidance for treatment.

Placing the health and well-being of women, children, and adolescents at the center of national recovery plans: The value of innovative experiences from Latin America and the Caribbean

The ISLAC Project (a collaboration between Tulane University and the University of Santiago de Chile) monitors the impact and the evolution of the response to the pandemic to incorporate a dissemination and advocacy strategy and identify potentially scalable demonstration experiences to make available to the international community, national and local leaders, service providers, and the media. The aim of these activities is to disseminate technical knowledge on the relevance of placing the health and well-being of women, children, and adolescents at the center of national recovery plans.

Incentivizing Adolescents an Youth Friendly Services for Expanded Opportunities for Health Service Providers 

OAY has been promoting efforts around the provision of quality and responsive adolescents and youth services (AYFS) in Kenya and are currently undertaking a project aimed at improving access to quality AYFS especially for marginalized and vulnerable young people in 2 counties. The marketplace presentation will focus on discussion and dialogue on opportunities around incentivizing provision of AYFs at PHC facility level as COVID- 19 building back better strategy.
