The Global Forum for Adolescents is almost here! As the largest-ever global gathering on adolescent health and well-being approaches, I am proud to spotlight PMNCH partners whose mission aligns with the five domains of adolescent well-being. This month, I am thrilled to recognize Sight and Life for their commitment to Domain 4: Learning, competence, education, skills, and employability.

For decades, Sight and Life has harnessed scientific knowledge to create practical, evidence-based solutions. These solutions are transformed into sustainable business models, and scaled to address public health challenges. One of their primary focuses has been on alleviating the malnutrition burden on vulnerable populations, especially women and children, and enabling them to be self-reliant. Sight and Life works with local entrepreneurs and partners to scale these solutions across low- and middle-income countries with a high malnutrition burden.

Yet, Sight and Life’s impact goes beyond malnutrition. They’re actively involved in projects that improve climate-smart innovations in food systems and enhance the accessibility of nutritious farm produce for smallholder farmers. Their innovative Egg Hub model empowers local farmers to provide more eggs to their communities and increase their income. Regular consumption of eggs is one of the most effective, proven ways to combat malnutrition.

The urgency of addressing malnutrition cannot be overstated. Shockingly, nearly half of global child deaths are attributed to this scourge. Climate emergencies, COVID-19, and conflicts have disrupted food systems and supply chains, causing further damage to an already fractured and unequal food infrastructure worldwide. The damage caused by malnutrition is unprecedented, lasting through the life course.

On October 12, the second day of the Global Forum for Adolescents, Sight and Life will co-host a session on “Hungry for change: Students assess school nutrition programs.” The session will highlight the barriers to learning and opportunities due to a lack of access to nutrition services in schools.  Insights will be shared on how school-based and digital solutions can drive holistic well-being and a better future for young people.

Special thanks to Kesso Gabrielle van Zutphen, Director of Science at Sight and Life, and Jordie Fischer, Resource Associate, for their collaboration and leadership in the planning of the Global Forum session.  Don’t miss it.  Register today!
