Warm tribute is being paid from across the global health community to Dr Luc de Bernis, former WHO and UNFPA staff member (1954-2024), whose leadership in maternal and newborn health have advanced advocacy and understanding over several decades. Throughout his career, Luc championed the vital role of midwives, advocating for their empowerment and recognition on a global scale. In addition, he played a crucial role in the response to the Ebola outbreak in West Africa providing invaluable support to affected communities. During his retirement in southern France, Luc continued to contribute to projects aimed at strengthening maternal and neonatal health systems, and supporting communities in need.
