The Africa Health Budget Network  (AHBN) warmly commends the Federal Government of Nigeria on the release of $3.75 million through the Ministry of Health in support of the 2025 family planning allocation. This represents approximately 94 percent of the approved budget and signals a strong commitment to protecting critical investments that advance the health and rights of women and girls across the country.

This milestone underscores the importance of sustained, evidence-driven advocacy and constructive engagement with government, which remains central to AHBN’s work on family planning financing. Working alongside partners, AHBN has consistently advanced budget tracking, budgetary allocation, and timely releases both at national and subnational levels.

AHBN highlights the role of PMNCH’s Nigeria Collaborative Advocacy Action Plan (CAAP) in advancing recent progress on family planning financing. AHBN is leading the implementation of the CAAP in Nigeria, with family planning financing identified as the first advocacy goal under the plan. This prioritization provided a structured and coordinated pathway for collective advocacy, helping to align partners around a shared objective.

Key partners brought together through the CAAP initiative being coordinated by AHBN in Nigeria

As the convening partner of the CAAP, AHBN worked closely with partners to drive evidence-informed engagement and policy dialogue in support of the release of funds for the 2025 family planning allocation in Nigeria. This milestone underscores the importance of sustained, evidence-driven advocacy and constructive engagement with government, which remains central to AHBN’s work on family planning financing. AHBN acknowledges the strong collaboration of the Association for the Advancement of Family Planning (AAFP), the Health Reform Foundation of Nigeria (HERFON), the MAYE Working Group, the Association of Nigerian Health Journalists (ANHEJ), among others, whose contributions strengthened advocacy, accountability, and budget tracking efforts, supporting improved budgetary allocation and timely releases at both national and subnational levels.

We also acknowledge the role of UNFPA, for providing co financing support for family planning commodities procurement in Nigeria. AHBN remains committed to working with the government and partners to strengthen accountability for family planning financing in Nigeria and to sustain momentum, safeguard gains, and ensure that allocated resources deliver meaningful impact for those who need them most.

As we celebrate this progress, AHBN reaffirms its commitment to strengthening accountability for women’s health financing in Nigeria. Continued collaboration with government and partners will be essential to sustain momentum, safeguard gains, and ensure that allocated resources deliver meaningful impact for those who need them most.
