A new study in The Lancet outlines a plan to reduce preventable maternal deaths worldwide. The research from the Partnership for Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (PMNCH) points to strong political leadership as key.
In 2023, about 712 women died each day from pregnancy-related complications-around 260,000 in total. Over two-thirds of these deaths occurred in Sub-Saharan Africa. The study calls on leaders and health systems to act now to save lives.
