Karen Walker, vice chair of the PMNCH Knowledge and Evidence Working Group, told TOI that India has major strides in mitigating infant mortality.
"The global goal is 12 for every 1,000 births, but India wants to reduce it to single digit, which is heartening," she said. She added that along with doctors, training of nurses and midwives is very important to reduce infant mortality in developing nations. "We must also take into consideration factors such as global warming while thinking about prenatal and neonatal care," she added.
