Against the backdrop of the increasing need to invest in the health and well-being of adolescents and young people; DESERVE, a youth-led organization in Cameroon and member of PMNCH is thrilled to publish a comprehensive adolescent well-being policy and advocacy toolkit in English and French which adapts the global Advocating for Change for Adolescents toolkit in Cameroon. The Health and Well-being of Adolescents and Young People in Cameroon: Advocating for Change for Adolescents Toolkit in Cameroon, Policies, Actions, Meaningful Engagement shortened as ACAP Toolkit was unraveled on the 28th December, 2023 during the Second National Training on Adolescent Health and Well-being (NATAHW 2) which DESERVE convened in Yaounde. It was attended by 50 adolescents and youth from 25 organisations and representatives from 4 government ministries who were trained using the toolkit.
A key realization in this research and advocacy effort is the government endorsement of the ACAP Toolkit by the Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou who authored the foreword.
The book presents the situation of adolescent health and well-being (AHW) in Cameroon and a compendium of policies that back-up actions. It is an agenda-setting and meaningful engagement manual on AHW for stakeholders including youth-led and youth-focused organizations and decision-makers. It summarizes the 1.8 billion young people for change campaign and the what want young people want survey in Cameroon. In synthesizing evidence on the effects of COVID-19 on the well-being of adolescents in Cameroon, it presents a call to action for crises preparedness to avert their effects on adolescents’ well-being.
ACAP Toolkit is a product of broad-based multi-stakeholder and inter-sectoral collaboration including the engagement of grassroots, national, regional and global actors involving significant meaningful adolescents and youth engagement (MAYE) wherein young people convened stakeholders for co-development of the innovation.
