Misleading and harmful narratives about contraception, abortion, fertility, maternal health, and vaccines proliferate across social media and the internet, often undermining evidence-based care. According to a recent review, “One-third of this content could mislead by claiming that evidence-based interventions were associated with unattributed risks. Twenty-three percent made medical recommendations that do not align with professional guidelines. Fourteen percent promoted alternative medicine.”1
PMNCH FactCheck is here to change that. Our platform is a dedicated fact-checking tool designed to protect the health and rights of women, children, and adolescents worldwide, in particular their sexual and reproductive health and rights, by combining expert review with accessible communication. We aim to equip and empower advocates, programmers, and policy-makers with credible evidence-based information on SRHR and the health and rights of women, children, and adolescents.
Here’s how it works: anyone can submit a request to fact-check viral information through our portal, which is then reviewed by a panel of experts. The information is verified as true or false, and then accurate, evidence-based information is provided in an easy-to-use format for practical application in real-world settings. Alongside, we will issue timely alerts through social media to counter harmful trends.
