Malawi is one of 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa that have collaborated with the PMNCH under the CAAP initiative.
Responding to the need for accelerated progress for women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health (WCAH), the CAAP initiative in Malawi aims to advance WCAH issues through coordinated and collaborative, multi-sectoral collaborative advocacy and accountability efforts. These multi-constituency efforts aim to contribute to the achievement of national priorities by accelerating the implementation of existing Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and Adolescent Well-Being (AWB).
The CAAP initiative in Malawi is coordinated by Amref Malawi, under the leadership of Hester Mkwinda Nyasulu, Amref’s Country Director and stewardship of the Ministry of Health’s Reproductive Health Directorate. The close collaboration between the Reproductive Health Services Director, Madame Doreen Namagetsi Ali, and the Parliamentary Committee Chairperson on Health, Dr. Matthews Ngwale, was critical to the process in Malawi.
In 2024, the advocacy plan was developed to rally the joint advocacy and accountability efforts of partners around key national priorities. It builds on findings from the scoping and assessment of national commitments and feedback from discussions with organizations working on WCAH issues, including civil society organizations, adolescent and youth organizations, donors and academia, among others.
The CAAP plan aims to strengthen synergies with other initiatives and platforms such as Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere and Child Survival Action Initiative.. Priorities identified by national partners also complement the high-level political advocacy of the Global Leaders Network for Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescent Health (GLN), H.E. President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera of Malawi is part of.
The plan’s success depends on the collaborative efforts of partners. We invite you to join our efforts to accelerate progress for women, children, and adolescents in Malawi!
