Ethiopia Collaborative Advocacy Action Plan

Overview

Ethiopia is one of 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa that have collaborated with PMNCH through the CAAP initiative.   

Responding to the need for accelerated progress for women’s, children’s, and adolescents' health (WCAH), the CAAP initiative in Ethiopia aims to advance WCAH issues through coordinated and collaborative multi-constituency advocacy and accountability efforts. These multi-constituency efforts aim to contribute to the achievement of national priorities by accelerating the implementation of existing Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and Adolescent Well-Being (AWB) commitments while mobilizing new commitments where needed.   

The CAAP initiative in Ethiopia coordinated by the Clinton Health Access Initiative under the leadership of Dr. Rahel Belete and Dr. Zelalem Demeke. The stewardship of the Ministry of Health and the engagement of RMNCAH+N stakeholders from diverse constituencies are critical to the process.  

The advocacy plan has been finalized to rally the joint advocacy and accountability efforts of partners around key national priorities. It builds on findings from the scoping and assessment of national commitments and feedback from discussions facilitated through multistakeholder convenings with organizations working on WCAH issues, including civil society, youth organizations, healthcare professionals, and academia, among others. 

The CAAP initiative aims to strengthen synergies with other initiatives and platforms such as Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere  and the Global Financing Facility of the World Bank. Priorities identified by national partners also complement the high-level political advocacy of the Global Leaders Network for Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescent Health, supported by  H.E. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
