Launch of the Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (EPMM) Coverage Targets and Milestones to 2025

5 October 2021

Each day, 810 women die due to complications in pregnancy and childbirth, with the majority of deaths in low- and middle-income countries. There were an estimated 295,000 maternal deaths in 2017 and 2 million stillbirths in 2019. For every maternal death, many more face severe morbidity and disability that have long-term effects on women and their families. The Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3.1 sets out that by 2030, the global maternal mortality ratio (MMR) is reduced to less than 70 per 100,000 live births; and no country should have an MMR more than 140 per 100,000 live births.

Join the global virtual event to launch the Ending Preventable Maternal Mortality (EPMM) coverage targets and milestones to support countries with setting interim targets and milestones to 2025 toward accelerating progress to meet the Sustainable Development Goal 3.1 to reduce maternal mortality.
