By the Government of India and PMNCH
There are 1.8 billion adolescents and youth in the world today, with the maximum number of young people residing in India, promising to be a dominant force now and in the decades to come. Researchers have estimated that returns of between 5 and 10 dollars for every dollar invested in selected interventions to promote adolescent well-being are possible, with ratios well above 10 for some interventions. India has one of the youngest populations in the world – and they are its most valuable asset, and investment in this population could play a critical role in achieving the nation’s ambitious target to become a US$ 5 trillion economy. As nations race to achieve the SDGs, health and education have been identified as some of the key priorities of the Indian G20. Given India’s demographic dividend and the Prime Minsters’ belief in the power of youth – the G20 serves as an opportune moment to draw focus on the need to invest in adolescents and youth, their health and over all well-being.
