Ready, Set, Implement: A PMNCH high-impact dialogue series to accelerate action to reduce maternal, newborn and child mortality

Reducing maternal, newborn, and child mortality remains one of the most critical challenges to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 3.1 (reduce the global maternal mortality ratio) and SDG 3.2 (end preventable deaths of newborns and children under five). As we approach the 2030 deadline with only five years remaining to achieve these goals, the global community must act decisively to accelerate progress.

With the renewed global commitment enshrined in the upcoming World Health Assembly (WHA77) resolution, it is crucial to focus on scaling up services and interventions that have the most significant impact on reducing maternal, newborn, and child mortality, particularly in vulnerable communities and fragile settings.

This high-level dialogue is the first of a three-part series that will bring together policymakers, healthcare leaders, and experts to discuss how countries can strengthen and scale up high-impact interventions to accelerate progress toward SDG targets. This dialogue will focus on services and interventions for MNCH, particularly those that address the unique needs of the most vulnerable populations.

The dialogue aims to:

  • Identify and discuss the most effective services and interventions for reducing maternal, newborn, and child mortality, with a focus on country-level implementation in vulnerable settings.
  • Explore how to overcome barriers to scaling up these interventions in fragile and crisis-affected communities.
  • Generate practical solutions to improve access to quality sexual, reproductive, maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health services, ensuring equity for the most marginalized groups.
  • Provide actionable recommendations and a clear call to action to accelerate progress toward achieving SDG 3.1 and 3.2.
