Humanitarian and fragile settings

Humanitarian and fragile settings

Humanitarian and fragile settings represent some of the most complex global challenges, disproportionately affecting women, newborns, children, and adolescents. Vulnerable populations including women, newborns children, and adolescents face heightened risks due to disrupted healthcare systems, limited access to essential services, food and water insecurity, displacement, and heightened exposure to violence and disease outbreaks. Fragile contexts exacerbate existing inequalities, placing a significant burden on the health and well-being of those already marginalized.

There is a significant need for integrated policies and investments that promote resilience and protect women’s, newborns', children’s, and adolescents’ health in humanitarian and fragile settings. Strengthening humanitarian responses through adaptive, gender-sensitive social protection programs and health interventions can ensure that women’s, newborns', children’s, and adolescents’ health remains a priority even in the face of crises. PMNCH calls for increased financing and aid that prioritize women, children, and adolescents in these settings, with a focus on sustainable, long-term investments in health systems. By advocating for innovative financing mechanisms, mobilizing global resources, and advocating for stronger commitments, PMNCH aims to enhance resilience, support equitable health outcomes, and ensure that humanitarian and health responses are inclusive and adequately funded in fragile settings.
