Other WCAH events

On the sidelines of CPD 58,  join us for a discussion on why investments in health, including in sexual and reproductive health, are critical to boosting socioeconomic progress and building resilient health systems.

The discussion will underscore the critical role of midwifery in addressing maternal and newborn health and foster commitments to scale up quality midwifery models of care worldwide. Across two dynamic panel discussions, the event will bring together global champions - member states, philanthropy, civil society and professional associations - to explore evidence-based interventions and strategies to accelerate progress towards SDG 3 (health) and SDG 5 (gender equality), as well as the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere (EWENE) targets.

Advancing Women, Children, and Adolescents’ Health (WCAH)

The CPD58 provides a critical platform for integrating Women, Children, and Adolescents’ Health (WCAH) into population and development discussions. PMNCH emphasizes the need for Member States and stakeholders to:

    1. Prioritize health equity: Ensure universal access to healthcare services, especially for women, children, and adolescents, in line with the WHA77 resolution on reducing maternal, newborn, and child mortality and morbidity.
    2. Invest in SRHR: Strengthen sexual and reproductive health and rights as a cornerstone of sustainable development and population health.
    3. Address demographic challenges: Tackle the health implications of population trends, including aging, urbanization, and migration.
    4. Strengthen data systems: Support demographic data collection and analysis to inform evidence-based policies and programs for health and development.

    Call to Action

The CPD58 is a pivotal moment to reinforce the commitment to the ICPD Programme of Action and ensure that health, equity, and dignity remain central to population and development policies.

PMNCH calls on all participants to:

    • Advocate for investments in health systems that prioritize the needs of women, children, and adolescents.
    • Foster partnerships across sectors to address the interlinkages between population dynamics and health.
    • Amplify the voices of youth, women, and marginalized groups in shaping policies that affect their lives.
