Despite considerable progress over the last half century, comprehensive maternal and newborn care and safe delivery remain out of reach for many women in underserved areas.
This evening reception will spotlight a renewed focus on prevention-first maternal health systems, exploring how stronger, more integrated care can dramatically reduce maternal deaths — particularly from postpartum hemorrhage. Co-hosted by Kinaura Partners, the Eleanor Crook Foundation, the Gates Foundation, MSD for Mothers, and the International Confederation of Midwives, the event will feature remarks and a fireside chat with leading maternal health experts, donors, midwives, and policymakers.
Speakers will discuss the comprehensive package of care proven to support mothers and babies to thrive — from timely antenatal services that identify risks early, skilled birth attendance, and objective measurement of blood loss, to postpartum follow-up and access to contraception. The conversation will also highlight the role of preventive nutrition, including multiple micronutrient supplementation, alongside midwifery leadership and multisector collaboration needed to deliver continuous, high-quality care for women and newborns.
Together, we can ensure that every pregnancy is safe and every mother and baby is healthy. Let’s put prevention first.
