Kenya Collaborative Advocacy Action Plan

Kenya is one of 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa that have collaborated with the PMNCH under the CAAP initiative.

Responding to the need for accelerated progress for women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health (WCAH), the CAAP initiative in Kenya aims to advance WCAH issues through coordinated and collaborative multi-sectoral collaborative advocacy and accountability efforts. These multi-constituency efforts aim to contribute to the achievement of national priorities by accelerating the implementation of existing Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and Adolescent Well-Being (AWB) commitments while mobilizing new commitments where needed.

The CAAP initiative in Kenya is coordinated by the Health NGO Network (HENNET) under the leadership of Dr. Margaret Lubaale, Executive Director, and CAAP focal point Sharon Musakali. The work is supported by Aga Khan University’s Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health as the research partner under the leadership of Prof Marleen Temmerman.

In 2024, the advocacy plan was developed to rally the joint advocacy and accountability efforts of partners around key national priorities. It builds on findings from the scoping and assessment of national commitments and feedback from discussions with organizations working on WCAH issues, including civil society, sub-national and community-based organizations, adolescent and youth organizations, and academia, among others.

The CAAP initiative aims to strengthen synergies with other initiatives and platforms such as the Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere , Child Survival Action Initiative  and the Global Financing Facility of the World Bank. Priorities identified by national partners also complement the high-level political advocacy of the Global Leaders Network for Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescent Health (GLN)

The plan’s success depends on the collaborative efforts of partners. We invite you to join our efforts to accelerate progress for women, children, and adolescents in Kenya!
