Nigeria - Collaborative Advocacy Action Plan (CAAP)

Nigeria is one of 10 countries in sub-Saharan Africa that have collaborated with PMNCH through the CAAP initiative.

Responding to the need for accelerated progress for women’s, children’s, and adolescents’ health (WCAH), the CAAP initiative in  Nigeria aims to advance WCAH issues through coordinated and collaborative multi-constituency advocacy and accountability efforts. These multi-constituency efforts aim to contribute to the achievement of national priorities by accelerating the implementation of existing Maternal, Newborn, and Child Health (MNCH), Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), and Adolescent Well-Being (AWB) commitments while mobilizing new commitments where needed.

The CAAP initiative in  Nigeria is coordinated by Africa Health Budget Network (under the leadership of Dr. Aminu Garba, Founder and Coordinator) and with support from Education as a Vaccine, a youth led organization. The stewardship of Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare and inputs of stakeholders from the RMNCAEH+N TWG was critical to the process.

In 2024, the advocacy plan was developed to rally the joint advocacy and accountability efforts of partners around key national priorities. It builds on findings from the scoping and assessment of national commitments and feedback from discussions with organizations working on  WCAH issues, including civil society, youth organizations, health care professionals, academia among others.

The CAAP plan aims to strengthen synergies with other initiatives and platforms such as Every Woman Every Newborn Everywhere  and Child Survival Action Initiative. Priorities identified by national partners also complement the high-level political advocacy of the Global Leaders Network for Women’s, Children’s, and Adolescent Health.

The plan’s success depends on the collaborative efforts of partners. We invite you to join our efforts to accelerate progress for women, children, and adolescents in Ethiopia.
